Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Screed Operator to join our team in the Salina, KS area. You will be traveling the Tri-State area for work.


The Screed Operator will be responsible for operating the asphalt screed, which is the portion of the paving machine that levels and compacts the asphalt mix. The ideal candidate should have experience in operating asphalt paving equipment, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the asphalt screed, ensuring that the asphalt mix is laid to the correct thickness and grade.
  • Maintain the proper screed temperature, speed, and vibration settings to achieve optimal paving results.
  • Monitor the flow of asphalt mix, and make adjustments as needed to maintain a consistent flow rate.
  • Communicate effectively with the paving crew, and ensure that the paving operation is running smoothly.
  • Inspect the screed and other paving equipment regularly, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and identify potential safety hazards in the paving operation.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation related to the paving operation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience operating asphalt paving equipment, with specific experience operating the screed.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in all aspects of the job.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment, and to stand for long periods of time.
  • Good with grade & Slope electronics on pavers screeds
  • Commitment to safety, and ability to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in the paving operation.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands


  • Occasionally works in an indoor office relatively free from environmental conditions or hazards.
  • Must tolerate working environment with outside temperatures that include excessive heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
  • Must be able to work outside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds to an overhead position.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and twist body.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use both hands and demonstrate good hand-eye coordination.
  • Tolerance to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Potentially exposed to contaminants, such as dust or fumes from exhaust; frequent exposure to hazardous equipment.
